Abstract: Telephone area code boundaries.

Purpose:

For use in mapping area code boundaries on the state, county, and local levels.

Supplemental_Information:

Created by dissolving telephone exchange boundaries which had been digitized from 24,000 scale USGS topographic maps. The ArcGIS Dissolve command was used to eliminate boundaries between exchanges with the same area code. The data incorporates several changes which have been made to the area code definitions since the data was originally created.

Area code boundaries must follow the established telephone exchange boundaries, which were digitized by the PUCO in 1989 and are documented elsewhere. This data set incorporates several changes to the area code definitions, including area code splits and overlays.
